How to Help Support Us

Thank you for thinking about supporting St Saviour's Church. We hope you have found this site useful.

St Saviour's Church raises funds to pay for the running costs and maintenance work on the church hall and also for the church 'share' (or quota) given to the diocese. The quota (which is assessed on attendance figures and earnings band, derived from an anonymous annual survey) goes towards providing pay for the clergy in the diocese (including a vicar for Coalpit Heath) and for clergy pensions. For 2008 St Saviour's has been asked to pay £33,898 (i.e. £652 per week) towards the diocesan budget of £7,563,000 (of which £5,872,200 comes from parishes). In total it costs nearly £50,000 each year to keep St Saviour's Church running.

We also raise funds throughout the year for a number of charities.

If you live in Coalpit Heath and parts of Westerleigh or Frampton Cotterell, this is your Church. Churches everywhere are in danger of being closed due to lack of use and money. We are a very friendly bunch and would love to see you at our services, but even if you don't want to attend you might like to consider supporting us.

You can help in a variety of ways:

Click on a link above for more detail. We will add new ways that you can help us as they become available (and some of the exisiting links may change if a better way comes to light), so please revisit this page regularly.

We are very grateful for your support. Thank you.

Collect Items

You can help us to help our charities by collecting:

Please leave all items in the box at the back of the church.

Recycling printer cartridges, mobile phones etc isn't just good for decluttering, its also good for the environment.

Many mobile phones have Nicad batteries which contain Cadmium, a toxic and carcinogenic substance. When mobiles are binned, they end up in landfill sites where toxic contamination can be caused as Cadmium leaks into surrounding soils. Cadmium poisoning can cause kidney failure in humans.

In the UK about 80 per cent of the population have at least one mobile phone. Almost 90 per cent of 15-44 year olds own a mobile. It is estimated that there are up to 110 million unused mobile phones in homes and workplaces throughout Britain.

Of the 60 million printer cartridges are used each year in the UK, but only about 10% are currently recycled. This means that 54 million cartridges get thrown away each year and end up in landfill sites or are incinerated.

The plastic used in a typical cartridge is made of engineering grade polymers, so it is expected that each cartridge could take up to 1,000 years to decompose if placed in landfills. 90ml of oil is used to produce each inkjet cartridge and roughly 3.5 litres of oil are needed to make one new laser cartridge. Oil is a non-renewable fossil fuel.

We are very grateful for your support. Thank you.

There are a whole variety of other things you can collect (but please send these straight to the collector and do NOT leave in church):
