St Valentine 'Celebration of marriage' service.
Feb 15th 6pm
There were 'brides', past, present and future at St Saviour's, for this service, with a display of wedding dress fashions to match.
Short and bouffant from the late fifties, classical brocades, silk suits, simple a-lines from the sixties, and sleeveless lovelies from the 90’s and 2000’s, adorned with crystals and pearls, as well as a daring strapless model in dark red!
Lots of photos and wedding albums to browse through and try to match up the slim, beautiful brides with some of the present day ladies, not to mention identifying the grooms, who have a lot less hair now and rather more middle!
The simple service contained both well-loved and less familiar wedding hymns and lots of wedding music, to bring a touch of nostalgia to the well-and-truly married and hopefully, some inspiration to those being married this year. There were refreshments to follow, with plenty of time for the many who attended to browse and chat.
Many thanks to all who contributed to this service and to the displays - those who brought photos or resurrected their gowns from attics and special thanks to the younger brides who lent their carefully packed precious models to us. Also to all who borrowed, lent or made the stands on which the dresses were displayed and to those who provided refreshments.
